The 2008 Red Angus Young Guns Conference was held in Irving, Texas on July 17th – 19th at the Radisson DFW South Hotel. This year’s event, the third annual, drew over 30 participants from across the country with both veteran and rookie attendees. Red Angus breeders from Montana to North Carolina and North Dakota to Texas were represented. First, second and third generation cattlemen joined in the discussion and took part in the interactive program. more

Maternal efficiency is necessary for profitability in the cow-calf business. Each year, the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) honors the elite cows in its registry with inclusion on the Focus Dams list. Only 115 proven cows and 174 prospect females, together representing less than 1 percent of the breed’s active dams, earned mention during the fall 2008 evaluation. more

Expected progeny differences (EPDs) from the fall 2008 international Limousin genetic evaluation now are available through various features of the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) Web site (www.nalf.org). Pedigree and performance records for more than 2 million Limousin-based cattle in the United States and Canada underpin the latest sire summary, which includes more than 1,900 bulls. more

Megan Greenawalt, Lynchburg, Ohio, and Michael Mitchell, Mangum, Okla., received $750 scholarships from the Limi Boosters at the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress (NJLSC) awards banquet July 18 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Spencer Hall, Sonora, Texas, and Nathan Sloan, Fouke, Ark., received the organization’s educational grants. more

Six teams shared their recipes for success at the 16th Annual Limousin Beef Cook-Off July 14 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Each prepared a beef dish while keeping with its chosen theme – from costumes to serving style. The Limi Boosters hosted the contest as part of the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress (NJLSC). more
