OSU Recognizes Nutrition Physiology Company for Partnership Yielding $1 Million in Royalties

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (June 22, 2009) – Oklahoma State University (OSU) has presented the institution’s corporate royalty award to Nutrition Physiology Company, LLC (NPC), honoring the results of license agreements between NPC and OSU that have generated more than $1 million in royalties for OSU. The award was presented during the university’s second annual Research Gala..

“This partnership is a true example of academic research developing into viable products,” said Stephen McKeever, Ph.D., OSU vice president for research and technology transfer. “We are fortunate to have a strong collaboration with NPC as we continue to work toward our shared goals.”

NPC is a Guymon, Okla.-based microbial technology company that develops and markets products for ruminant nutrition and food safety. Technology licensed from OSU helped NPC commercial a microbial feed additive for enhanced digestive health and efficiency in feedlot and dairy cattle. Licensed to NPC in 1996, the additive is fed daily in thousands of beef and dairy operations across the United States. NPC is the North American leader in direct-fed microbial products for beef and dairy cattle.

“NPC has enjoyed an extremely rewarding 15-year partnership with Oklahoma State University,” said Pete Anderson, Ph.D., president, NPC. “This is a great example of how research universities and industry can work together effectively, each using its unique strengths to address complex food safety and production issues. We look forward to tackling new challenges in our continuing work with OSU.”

In September 2008, NPC partnered with The Halifax Group in a recapitalization. Halifax is a private investment firm that invests alongside owners and managers of leading small-cap companies. Halifax’s equity sponsorship and resources are allowing NPC to expand its research and development activities and launch new products, while supporting efforts to license or acquire new technologies.
