X-mode eliminates sensor interference by electromagnetically sensing the arc

APPLETON, Wis. October 15, 2008—Allowing farmers to use an auto-darkening helmet in the field without worrying about interference from the sun, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. introduces its new Digital Elite™ Series auto-darkening welding helmets.

Featuring X-Mode technology, which electromagnetically senses the arc, the auto-darkening welding helmets are able to distinguish between a welding arc and sunlight, enabling farmers and ranchers to see through the lens while not welding. The X-Mode technology also provides protection when the traditional arc sensors are blocked, a common occurrence in out of position repairs or in obstructed or hidden-cavity welds.

Previous generations of auto-darkening helmets confuse sunlight with the welding arc and automatically darken when there is not a welding arc present, effectively rendering the auto-darkening technology useless.

The new Digital Elite Series also offers the flexibility of using one helmet for welding, cutting and grinding. With its digital controls, the Digital Elite helmet allows users to quickly switch between four modes—Welding, Cutting, Grinding and X-Mode—while retaining their preferences for shade, sensitivity and delay.

Still The Benchmark

Building on Miller’s popular Elite Series, the Digital Elite design features four independent arc sensors that respond in 1/20,000 of a second and comes standard with an Auto-Off feature. Weighing in at 18 oz., Elite helmets are lightweight and comfortable and come complete with 5 outside and 2 inside replacement cover lenses, a Miller-exclusive fatigue-reducing comfort cushion and helmet bag.

Digital Elite helmets are available in five popular graphic designs: the Inferno™, Stars and Stripes™ II, Lucky’s Speed Shop™, Vintage USA™ and The Joker™, as well as in a standard black design.

The Digital Elite Series helmets are available through welding supply distributors in the US and Canadian markets with an MSRP of $359 for the classic Black design and $389 for a graphic design. Prices will vary by distributor.
