Bronze & Silver Pins Awarded to Courtney Jentz
Courtney Jentz, Fennimore, Wis., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards. She received her pins at the recent World Beef Expo.
A member since 1999, Courtney is the 20-year-old daughter of Gregory Jentz and the late Kim Jentz. She is an active member of the NJAA and Wisconsin Junior Angus Association, where she currently serves as president. She has been a state princess and queen, in addition to representing her state as a voting delegate to the annual meeting of the NJAA. All her activities earned her a state scholarship. In 2007, Courtney was a mentor in the NJAA mentoring program and attended the Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference as well as the Raising the Bar officer training. She has excelled with her Angus cattle in the show ring and in showmanship competitions at numerous shows on the local, state, regional and national levels. Courtney is pursuing an animal science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an expected graduation date in 2010.
The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.
The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 8,000 active members nationwide.
