JanLee Rowlett, Hurricane Mills, Tenn., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards. She is an active member of the Tennessee Junior Angus Association, where she’s served as reporter, historian and second vice president.

JanLee attended the Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference in 2007 and 2008. Her creative writing entry placed second in national competition at the 2007 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS). A member since 1994, JanLee has shown her Angus cattle and competed in showmanship at numerous shows on the local, state, and regional levels. She has consigned cattle to the West Tennessee Angus Sale. JanLee is the 17-year-old daughter of Buddy and Kelley Rowlett and attends Waverly Central High School.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 8,000 active members nationwide.
