In wake of Ike, TSCRA Fall Board Meeting cancelled

From the TEXAS AND SOUTHWESTERN CATTLE RAISERS ASSOCIATION

Pre-registered members have opportunity to donate registration fees to victims

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 16, 2008—Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association officers announced today that the TSCRA Fall Board Meeting, scheduled September 21-23, in Tyler, has been cancelled due to Hurricane Ike’s impact on Texas and the large number of ranchers and cattle involved.

“Out of respect for the thousands of ranchers affected, we felt cancelling the board meeting was the right thing to do,” said TSCRA President Jon Means, a rancher from Van Horn.

TSCRA has been actively involved with the emergency response team headed by the Texas Department of Agriculture, and has been working closely with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in their responsibility of coordinating relief feed and other resources.

“We are busy locating feed, water tanks, fence panels, trucks and other needed resources; as well as engaging many of our special rangers in the affected areas. This effort is requiring a tremendous time commitment from TSCRA leaders, members and staff which will likely continue through the week and into the weekend of the meeting. The decision was made to use these resources to aide affected cattle raisers in their time of need,” Means said.

TSCRA staff members are calling pre-registered members today to inform them of the cancellation. Full refunds will be issued; however, members also have the option of transferring their registration fee to a relief fund for ranchers affected by Ike. Donors will be provided with a charitable donation receipt for this transaction.

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a 131-year-old trade organization whose 15,000 members manage approximately 4 million head of cattle on 51.5 million acres of range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma. TSCRA provides law enforcement services, livestock inspection, legislative and regulatory advocacy and education opportunities for its members.
