Two Juniors Awarded Hereford Herdsman Scholarships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jena Dimberg and Drew Perez were awarded $500 Hereford Herdsman scholarships on July 18 at the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Kansas City.

Administered by the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) in cooperation with Hereford herdsman, the scholarships honor National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members who take great pride in exhibiting and presenting their Hereford cattle.


Dimberg, Charleston, Miss., has been a member of NJHA and the Mississippi Junior Hereford Association (MJHA) for eight years. She has served as president of MJHA and has also been involved in numerous activities in high school, including 4-H, athletics and cheerleading. Dimberg has also experienced success in the showring, winning champion Hereford heifer several times at the Dixie National. Dimberg is a junior at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., where she is working toward a degree in speech pathology.


Drew Perez, Nara Visa, N.M., has been very active in NJHA along with 4-H and FFA and was the recipient of his local FFA chapter’s Beef Production Entrepreneurship Award. He was most recently named All-American Individual in junior college livestock judging after a successful judging career at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan. Perez’s exhibition of market and breeding cattle extends from the local to national level. He won reserve intermediate showman at the 2004 JNHE and placed among the top 10 senior finalists this year. Perez will continue his education this fall at Texas Tech majoring in agriculture economics.

The NJHA is one of the most active junior programs in the country with approximately 3,000 members. The NJHA’s mission is to create and promote enthusiasm for the breed while
