Texan Wins American Hereford Women Queen Scholarship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Katie Killian, Stratford, Texas, was selected as the 2008-2009 American Hereford Queen Scholarship winner. The award was presented on July 18 at the 2008 Junior National Hereford Expo in Kansas City.
The scholarship is sponsored by the American Hereford Women (AHW) to recognize the hard work and efforts to promote the Hereford industry exhibited by young women serving as state Hereford queens. The AHW awarded a $250 scholarship to Killian who has exhibited enthusiasm, poise, dignity, cooperation and knowledge of the Hereford breed during her reign as Texas Hereford Queen.
Killian is a junior at Stratford High School and is active in 4-H. She received the Rookie and Silver Star awards from the Falls County 4-H chapter and now, after moving to Sherman County, she is part of the 4-H group’s nutrition quiz bowl team and is a delegate to the district 4-H council. Killian is very proud of the fact that her family has been raising Hereford cattle in Texas for 100 years. In addition to showing Herefords, Killian is involved in FFA and her church youth group.

The NJHA is one of the most active junior programs in the country with approximately 3,000 members.
