Owen, Dugger Win Champion Horned Hereford Female Titles

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Randa Owen, Ft. Payne, Ala., took home national champion horned female honors at the ninth annual Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), July 19 in Kansas City.

Tyler Cates, Modoc, Ind., judged 701 owned heifers, including 181 horned females. In the championship drive Cates commented, “I admire your breed for being able to excel in many facets of the beef industry, whether it is commercial bulls, raising powerful females, or outstanding youth.”


The grand champion horned female, Purple Clover L25T, owned by Owen, is a March 2007 daughter of Purple Tonic 10M and showed with expected progeny differences (EPDs) of birth weight (BW) 2.7; weaning weight (WW) 48; yearling weight (YW) 76; milk (MM) 20; and milk and growth (M&G) 44. Grand champion horned female honors were sponsored by UMB Bank and the R.C. Kemper Charitable Trust, Kansas City, Mo., W-4 Ranch, Morgan, Texas, and Hoffman Herefords, McArthur, Calif.


The reserve champion horned female went to Josh Dugger, Whitesboro, Texas, with CRR 420 Kelly 728. She is a February 2007 daughter of CRR D03 Shiner 420 ET and showed with EPDs of BW 4.9; WW 51; YW 76; MM 14; and M&G 39. Reserve grand champion horned was sponsored by The Stream Family, Chariton, Iowa, and Vita Ferm, St. Joseph, Mo.


The premier breeder and exhibitor awards stayed in the Lone Star State with Kandi Knippa, Sequin, Texas, winning the junior premier breeder and exhibitor award and Texas junior members captured the State Group of 5. DeShazer Cattle Co., Hearne, Texas, claimed the adult premier breeder title and Star Lake Ranch, Skiatook, Okla., claimed breeder group of three.

Division III champion: Laken Lierle, Fort Cobb, Okla., with TCL Gold Laryn 402 by KW Golden Duke.


Division III reserve champion: Mitchell Tucker, North Platte, Neb., with KLD 3060 Daisy D76 ET by BR Lansing 3060.


Division IV reserve champion: Taylor Schrick, Sayre, Okla., with C Chanel ET by DM L1 BR Domino 146.


Division V reserve champion: Kelsey Stimpson, Melba, Idaho, with FH Kachina 712 by C Fantastic 2165.


Division VI champion: Brady and Brooke Jensen, Courtland, Kan., with KJ 1927 Bridgett 327S ET by KJ BJ Bounty Hunter 741P.


Division VI reserve champion: Brady Jensen, Courtland, Kan., with KJ 1927 Bridgett 325S ET by KJ BJ Bounty Hunter 741P.
